Scientists in recent times have theorised that overuse of anti-bacterial cleaners and hand sanitisers could be making our homes so sterile that it weakens our kids’ immunity, and increases their chances of developing hay fever, asthma and other allergies. Regular hard scrubbing with bleaches and spray-on wipes, it seems, is probably not necessary or healthy. On the other hand, there’s no doubt that some household germs, such as staphylococcus and campylobacter, can cause nasty illnesses, some of which are more common in winter.

Every tenant gets a little apprehensive when their tenancy period is about to come to an end. The situation becomes stressful for two reasons – one, they have to pack and move to a new home, which is a time-consuming and complex process and two, their rented accommodation needs to be cleaned and brought back to the condition it was in when they had rented it. The need for bond cleaning in Gold Coast arises in this precise situation.

From fried fish to a filthy litterbox, most smells in your home are fairly easy to pinpoint. There are, however, more insidious aromas that linger and seem impossible to eliminate, no matter how many bottles of air freshener you unleash. To keep these odours from taking over your home, first you have to identify them.

iRobot's newest robot mop will focus on quality over quantity. The Braava Jet 240 can only cover 150 to 200 square feet, a big step down from the 300-to-1,000 sq. ft. range of its predecessor -- the Braava 380t. But with a vibrating cleaning head to increase agitation, a water nozzle to spray the area it's covering, and premixed detergent in its disposable pads, the Jet 240 should do a better job of scrubbing the smaller area it can reach.

A robot revolution has been the stuff of movie and literary fiction for a long time. Often times, depictions of that revolution are gory and end when the last humans are whipped out by the machine. In reality, the robot revolution is turning out to be a lot friendlier and pretty helpful, too.

Let’s face it, we are all busy. Life is 100km an hour and the majority of us cram as much as we can into our day. Between work, children, exercising and socialising there might not be a huge amount of time left over for house work. If you are time poor, then you probably don’t want to spend the whole weekend cleaning. Yes, we all love living in a clean and tidy house, but it’s probably fair to say that the most of us don’t love the actual cleaning.

One of the back-breaking household chores that had become a lot easier with the introduction of washing machines would even become easier. Washing clothes would become unnecessary to maintain hygiene. All that would be needed to be done is to expose the used clothing to light. It could be sunlight or artificial light. Behind this liberating discovery are self-cleaning textiles developed by researchers at Australia’s RMIT University, reports ABC. The scientists grew nanostructures on textiles, which when exposed to light, release a burst energy that degrades organic matter. The team at the university’s Ian Potter NanoBioSensing Facility and NanoBiotechnology Research Lab worked with silver- and copper-based nanostructures because of the ability of these two materials to absorb visible light.

This demand has grown in the last few years since and increasing number of couples and families have all members of the household out during the day in a job and their time and willingness to tidy up their homes is shrieking every day. This need has been a motivation for many producers of home and cleaning house appliances that have started to design machines able to fulfill the demands of this market that calls for efficient high quality solutions at convenient prices. The machines helping out with house cleaning must therefore work at their maximum level in order to allow people to get the work done faster, and better.

Most of us know the basic rules of cleaning by now. But when faced with a stain or other in-home faux pas, laziness often gets the better of us. We find ourselves scrubbing the stain in a hurry instead of blotting it gently like we’re supposed to, which makes the problem even worse. Sounds like it’s time for a cleaning tips refresher course.

Our houses are cleaner than they ever have been before. Our soaps are antibacterial. Our cleaning products promise to kill 99.9 per cent of germs. Many of us keep hand sanitiser in our top drawers. The swarms of bacteria that lurk on your children’s hands and your dog’s tongue and paws don’t stand a chance against these antimicrobial safeguards. Because ever since we were kids, we’ve been taught that microbes are evil, plain and simple.

A house is not truly clean if the process of cleaning it has resulted in all kinds of unnecessary waste. Conventional cleaning relies on chemical products, plastic bottles, paper towels, plastic bags, sponges, and disposable wipes, but it doesn’t have to be that way. A zero-waste cleaning routine, by contrast, relies on durable tools that can be washed and reused. It uses non-toxic, natural, even edible cleaning products that will not contaminate your home by leaving unhealthy residues. And it will not fill up the trash can with empty, dirty containers and cloths that need to be hauled away.

"You could virtually make it up and it would all be true." Those are the words of Geoff Thorn, President of the Australian Window Cleaning Federation. You name it, it seems window cleaners have seen it and for good reason it is a trade that has earned the reputation for more than its share of 'wink, wink, know what I mean' humour. It's fertile territory that provided ample material for the 1970's film 'Confessions of a Window Cleaner', arguably described as a 'classic sex comedy'.
Even earlier in the 1930s ukulele-playing George Formby put the industry on the map with the song 'When I'm Cleaning Windows'. Advertisement
The lyrics in one version included the lines: 'Now lots of girls I've had to jilt, For they admire the way I'm built, It's a good job I don't wear a kilt, When I'm cleaning windows!" No wonder the BBC banned it from the nation's airwaves with director John Reith dismissing it as a 'disgusting little ditty'.

Having Christmas at yours, or hosting a New Year's Eve bash? Fun! But also, messy.
Planning ahead and being strategic can mean all the difference when it comes to the next day cleanup when you've got a pounding headache and your living room looks like a bombsite.
"First of all, choose decorations that double as party favours so guests can take cute name cards and flowers with them when they leave, essentially helping with the clean," Emma Rosen, Director of Party Affairs told The Huffington Post Australia. Regarding food, plan tasty items that don't require too much attention. Food stations are a trend, but tend to get messy, so stick to canapes instead.

MOULD loves rising temperatures and heavy rain, and that’s exactly what many parts of the state are contending with in the lead-up to summer.
Most of us cotton on to the presence of mould in our homes when we notice a musty smell in a room, or the odd fuzzy spot on a dress pulled from the back of the wardrobe, but mould is actually ever- present in our lives.
A naturally occurring and remarkably resilient species of fungi that can live in almost any environment, on its own and in small amounts it’s perfectly fine.
But introduce the spores (microscopic particles used to reproduce) to a source of humidity such as a damp wall or wet area of carpet as it travels through the air in your home and the environment will change drastically.
